The Brookfield coaching programme embraces the International Tennis Federations initiatives to introduce young players to the game of tennis and to provide opportunities for them to acquire the game and motor skills to allow them to progress in an enjoyable and safe environment. One of the initiatives, also supported by Tennis ireland, is to have skill awards which are achieved through performing simple tasks which progressively become more complex until the player is capable of playing a match.
To date more than thirty young players have participated in the Awards testing and there will be a Skills Awards Board where their achievement eill be recorded and displayed. Anyone who was unavailable will have another opportunity to be included on a date to be announced in the near future.
It is intended to use these skill levels to put groups together for training in order that each player is allowed to make progress at the fastest rate that they can achieve.
