The Brookfield ladies teams in Classes 6 and 7 of the Dublin League did the club proud in the finals of their respective competitions held in Templeogue Tennis club on Sat 25th June.
The 4th team led by Caroline Sweeney went down 3/1 with one match unfinished after a great struggle with Lansdowne 2nds. Caroline and Ursula Martin were in the third set when called in due to the overall result been established before they finished their match. Ann-Marie Corcoran and Siobhan Baird were involved in titanic struggles in the other singles while Joan Gillen and Eleanor Kelleher put up a brave fight in the doubles before succumbing to defeat.
the second match on was between Rathoath 1sts and Brookfield 5ths in the Class 7 final. the team was proudly led by Maeve O'Connell who was unfortunate to injure her leg during her match but battled bravely to the end against a very talented opponent. The strong singles challenge from the Ratoath girls was maintained in the 2nd singles where Mary Carty again resisted strongly to the end. Laura Miller gave a master class in singles play to win her match in straight sets as did Louise Lynn Browne and Maire O'Connor in the first doubles. Mary Gregg and Liz Quinn fought bravely against a very strong partnership before the overall result went to Ratoath on the closest of scorelines, 3/2.
Both teams should be proud of their performances throughout the League campaign and it is a fantastic outcome to the season that so many Brookfield teams have gained promotion to a higher division for 2012.
