JUNIOR CELEBRATION DAY – SUNDAY 12TH JUNE

70 children and their parents attended the Celebration of junior tennis on Sunday last when all players in the junior coaching received their grades and certificates at the end of the Summer term. The event was attended by President Peter Sheridan and Honorary Secretary Mags Murray. 26 children from under 7 to 17 years old demonstrated their skills before the large audience which included senior tennis Captains, Corne Mouton and Fionnuala Walsh who hoped to spot talent for future inclusion in the club’s senior teams.

After the exhibition the President welcomed everyone to the club and tributes were paid to the various club teams who performed so well over the year and to the many Brookfield players who represented the schools in the Leinster Schools competitions. Particular mention was made of the contributions made by non-playing captain Lulu McCarthy and Tom Murphy for arranging fixture and transportation of the club teams.

Director of Tennis Tadhg Lambe introduced the club coaches Kristine Kornikova and Mark McAndrew and thanked the Junior Committee, especially Deirdre McConkey and Sandra Maguire, for their outstanding work on the day and throughout the year.

The ‘Player of the Year’ award went to Anna McCarthy.

Citation for Junior Player of the Year Anna McCarthy

“For representing all that is best about being a member and contributor to the programmes and events in the Brookfield Tennis Club. For epitomizing the effort, sportsmanship and etiquette that is valued by the committee and the coaches. For the respect she receives from her peers who are fellow players and opponents. For displaying graciousness and politeness in both advantages and adverse situations.

For the way she represents herself, her family, the coaching programme, the sport of tennis, and the club. For these reasons Anna McCarthy is the Brookfield Tennis Club Player of the Year for 2015/2016"
